People pay their respects 24 January 2007 in front of the coffin of Abbe Pierre, the founder of Emmaus and human-rights defender and housing-rights militant, who died 22 January, at the age of 94, at the Val de Grace chapel in Paris. The resistance fighter-turned-ecclesiastic regularly topped French popularity polls, beating sporting icons, pop stars and politicians.
