Reportage sur le block printing ou impression de tissues à la planche de bois suclptée dans l'entreprise familiale Rk Derawala en Inde à Bagru au Rajasthan, lieu de naissance de cet art qui à plus de 450 ans et qui fut importé en Europe. Ici les mains en action d'un des laveurs de Bagru de la communauté Dhobis qui se consacre principalement à la lessive. La méthode traditionnelle de lavage consiste à tremper les tissus pendant un moment en les remuant à la main ou avec les pieds puis à frotter vigoureusement les vêtements sur des pierres ou des planches de bois, puis à les rincer et à les faire sécher au soleil. Cette technique ancestrale permet non seulement de nettoyer les vêtements, mais aussi d'éliminer les teintures naturelles et la gomme. La communauté Dhobi est un groupe très soudé, dont les connaissances se transmettent de génération en génération. The traditional method of washing involves soaking the fabrics for a while, stirring them by hand or with the feet, then rubbing the clothes vigorously on stones or wooden planks, rinsing them and drying them in the sun. This ancient technique not only cleans the clothes, but also removes the natural dyes and gum. The Dhobi community is a close-knit group whose knowledge has been passed down from generation to generation.
