Pope Francis (Jorge Mario Bergoglio) visited the Khor Virap's monastery near Ararat's mountain in the country's closed border with Turkey amid new tensions with Ankara over his recognition of the 1915 genocide, Pope Francis wrapped up his trip with calls for closer ties with Armenia's Oriental Orthodox church and a joint declaration with the Apostolic Church leader on the plight of Christians in the Mideast.
