The town has two ruins of what must have been fine mosques, the best preserved of which is the Kõzlar (women ) mosque. A notice indicates it was built in the 13th century, else the Ulu Camii mausoleum from 1325 in the Eyyub period in the ancient city of Hasankeyf, The Turkish town of Hasankeyf, a former trading post along the Silk Road, which has seen the Romans, Byzantines, Turkic tribes and Ottomans leave their mark, will soon be partially flooded by the Ilisu Dam, as part of the Southeast Anatolian project (Gap) and one of Turkey's largest hydroelectric projects, which is being built down stream.
