East German border guards standing on the Berlin Wall in front of the Brandenburg Gate look to the West. On November 9, the border separating Eastand West Germany was officially opened resulting in the 'fall of the Berlin Wall' and symbolising the end of the 'Cold War'. The wall was erected in August 1961 by the GDR (German Democratic Republic) to ward off western imperialism. West Berlin, WEST GERMANY - 12/11/1989
