Iranian Muslim students followers of the Imam Khomeini line burn a US flag while standing on the walls of the compound of the American embassy in Tehran, during the Iran hostage crisis. Iranian revolutionaries stormed the embassy and took 66 Americans hostage, demanding that the US extradite the former Shah of Iran who was being treated in America for cancer. The standoff lasted for 444 days. following President Carter's refusal to comply. The Shah died in July 1980, but the hostages were not released until Ronald Reagan officially became president , Tehran-Iran 12/11/1979
