PELAGOS SANCTUARY (FRANCE), MEDITERRANEAN SEA - AUGUST 2020 : A group of long-finned pilot whales (Globicephala melas) on August 15, 2020, in the French part of the Pelagos Sanctuary, Mediterranean Sea. Pilot whales are toothed cetaceans (Odontocetes) found in seas all over the world. They are represented by two species: the long-finned pilot whale (Globicephala melas), observed in temperate and sub-polar waters, and the short-finned pilot whale (Globicephala macrorhynchus), in warmer areas. Both species can coexist in the North-East Atlantic.
