La grande nacre (Pinna nobilis) est le plus grand coquillage bivalve de la planète et le deuxième plus grand coquillage après le bénitier. Elle peut atteindre 1 mètre de hauteur. Cette espèce a été longtemps récoltée pour sa précieuse nacre et son byssus, avec lesquels divers objets de décoration ou vêtements étaient fabriqués.
