PELAGOS SANCTUARY (FRANCE), MEDITERRANEAN SEA - AUGUST 2020 : A long-finned pilot whale (Globicephala melas) calf swim close to its mother on August 15, 2020, in the French part of the Pelagos Sanctuary, Mediterranean Sea. In addition to their smaller size than adults, averaging over 6 meters, calves are paler in color. Their dorsal fin is prominent and triangular, in contrast to the strongly rounded adult one. Furthermore, although they also present long and pointed pectoral fins, the characteristically sharp bend will be amplified with age.
