PELAGOS SANCTUARY (FRANCE), MEDITERRANEAN SEA - AUGUST 2020 : Observation of a group of long-finned pilot whales (Globicephala melas) on August 15, 2020, in the French part of the Pelagos Sanctuary, Mediterranean Sea. According to genetic studies carried out on stranded animals, long-finned pilot whale pods are stable. Every individual remains permanently in its natal group, composed of the offspring of a same female. On the other hand, males reproduce only outside the group, when they meet other animals on the same feeding area for instance.
