PELAGOS SANCTUARY (FRANCE), MEDITERRANEAN SEA - AUGUST 2020 : Spy hopping behavior of a long-finned pilot whale (Globicephala melas) on August 15, 2020, in the French part of the Pelagos Sanctuary, Mediterranean Sea. The spy hopping behavior is common in most cetacean species. The animal maintains itself vertically, using its fluke to keep its head out of the water. This allows them to inspect their surroundings, as these animals can see both under and above water. (Photo by Alexis Rosenfeld/Getty Images)
