Jean-Louis Chave, the 16th generation of the Chave family who started to exploit vines in 1481, in a hillside vineyard that he replanted in the Bachasson hills. He has made an enormous investment in time, money and energy in rebuilding hillside St. Joseph vineyards, planted in steep terraces, which were abandoned at the turn of the 20th century. All the terraces were hand-built stone by stone.
