Lundi 4 septembre 2023 à Brooklyn. Comme chaque veille de rentrée, le quartier de Crown Heights à Brooklyn (New York) était le théâtre de la parade annuelle du West Indian Carnival, où les quelque 600 000 habitants afro-caribéens de New York (originaires de Jamaïque, Haïti, Trinidad-et-Tobago…) célèbrent leurs cultures dans le sillage du rite du «J'ouvert», qui célèbre sur un mode festif et grotesque l'émancipation de l'esclavage. As on every Labor Day, the Crown Heights district of Brooklyn (New York) was the scene of the annual West Indian American Day Parade, where New York's 600,000 Afro-Caribbean residents (from Jamaica, Haiti, Trinidad and Tobago...) celebrate their cultures in the wake of the "J'ouvert" ritual, a celebratory and exuberant celebration of emancipation from enslavement.
